Tetsu Yamashita as a sickle maker was asked to make a pencil sharpener with a round head, so he produced the Sperm Whale knife. As a result of its immense popularity, Tetsu also created other whale knives including a letter opener.
In 2002, Mr. Yamashita became a Japanese Traditional Craftsman certified by the Japanese Government.
The knife can be used for various crafts (including sharpening pencils). Knives are extremely sharp, must be handled with care.
