The Menu Torch is designed for all sorts of outdoors use –ot just in private gardens but also outside restaurants, cafés and theatres.
Welcoming guests with a row of flaming torches – and sitting outdoors eating surrounded by torches – are old traditions in Denmark.
The idea behind the Torch is to extend this tradition into the future by combining classic materials and modern, Scandinavian design.
In 2001 the Cone Torch was awarded the Formland Prize.
The torch is designed for all sorts of outdoors use. The torch is pointed at the base so it can be inserted straight into the grass, sand or snow. The accompanying rubber strap also makes it easy to hang torches around your terrace, in the garden or on the balcony – attached to walls, fences and trees.
Practical details:
The torch can be filled with standard lamp oil and burns with a cotton wick. Burn time per fill: approx. 15-20 hours depending on the weather. Burn time per cotton wick: approx. 300 hours.
All of the torch's components are resistant to severe heat and cold, making them ideal for summer and winter use, e.g. to mark the entrance to festive occasions, as torches at garden parties, as a warm welcome to the home during the dark winter months – or as blazing snow lamps at Christmas time.
User instructions:
Wick length: approx. 3 mm over the edge of the top.
Use only approved lamp oils.
Lamp oil stand: maximum 2 cm under the edge of the glass.
Store the torch empty of oil and out of the reach of children.
Warning:
To be used outdoors only.
Extinguish torch in case of rain.
Place the torch out of children's reach.
Ensure torch is securely placed in an upright position and kept in a suitable distance from flammable materials.
Keep an eye on the torch when lit at all times.
Mount the torch only as described in the user instructions.
In the case of small children, just a sip of lamp oil – or even sucking the wick – may lead to life-threatening lung damage.
If lamp oil is swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice immediately or contact a poison information centre and show these warnings.
Mounting:
Distance between screws/hooks for mounting: 10 cm. (Screws/hooks not included).
Use drill template found on the top of the box.
Due to the possibility of soot damage, mounting the torch in sensitive areas, such as on light walls, is not recommended.
Cleaning and maintenance:
The glass can be cleaned with washing up liquid or in the dishwasher.
Maintenance of the torch top:
Wipe the metal surface with a soft cloth dampened with lamp oil, which will remove any traces of soot and form a protective membrane. Repeat at approx. four-week intervals. This will keep the torch top looking neat.
Handmade:
The glass is handmade and extremely thick to ensure the necessary strength for the intended outdoor use.
The thick glass wall requires that the craftsman must insert molten glass into the mould two times.
Each glass piece will therefore have one or two tiny curved lines. They are the sign that the glass has a “memory” and “remembers” its original shape as it was being moulded.
A couple of encapsulated air bubbles may also be present. Neither feature compromises the quality or your safe use of the MENU Torch.
