This cast iron door stopper was made with Nambu Tekki (cast iron). Nambu cast iron was first made in the middle of 17th century in Iwate, northern Japan, the area rich with this material. A master from Kyoto was summoned by the lord to create an iron pot for a tea ceremony, and signifies the beginning of the nambu-tekki (cast iron) craft. It became exemplary of Japanese traditional craft, and is still popular today.
