Flexible white lamp arrives compressed flat. Unfolds accordion-style to reveal an intricate moiré pattern. A series of vertical and horizontal lines superimpose to create the pattern and give the lamp form. Double Stray suspends from the ceiling, casting a soft glow.
In designing Double Stray, Sempé utilizes her signature aesthetic to create a lampshade that evokes the simplicity and translucence of Chinese paper lanterns. “I wanted to create a lampshade that captured the lightness and ease of these lanterns,” she says.
Sempé shows her affinity for linear motifs and textures with her use of the moiré pattern that serves as both the source of the piece’s structural integrity and the focal point of its visual style. The name Double Stray is a reference to the two overlapping line grids that embody the lampshade’s unusual design, a blend of aesthetics and functionality that is quintessentially Artecnica.
