With “Disco Cesellato“ and “Ovale Cesellato” Mendini has produced a chiseled decoration with a motif, almost a texture, which covers the surface. The texture is reinforced by a pure and simple drawing cut into the edge of the decoration. The decoration is obtained through adapting a traditional process of industrial chiseling that is not very commonly used today: the steel plate and the matrix plate with the engraved drawing are passed between two rolls compressing the two together, transferring the matrix engraving onto the steel plate in the process.
