The shape and composition of the component parts of the knife block define its position in the kitchen and the gestures
involved in its use. The inclination of the block, sloping away from the all-purpose holder, means that the block has
to be aligned with the depth axis of the worksurface, positioned to the left of the chef’s workstation. The block
presents knives with a degree of inclination, as if they were swords in a sheath, so that they can be gripped with the
right hand. This is a very natural movement, and does not require any degree of rotation or contortion of the wrist.
The operation of taking out or putting back knives is facilitated by the slots in the block, which continue on the side
of the unit.
The series of knives and the knife-block named “La cintura di Orione” was designed in 2007 by R. Sapper, with
consultancy from A. Gozzi. It is a product of the continuing research that led the same professionals to create the likenamed
series of saucepans in 1996, specially for culinary enthusiasts.
