“Anna Gong” has two aspects and two uses: when closed, it’s a table-top sculpture; when open, it becomes a multi-tier cake stand that can be used at the table. Folding objects, when they are in their closed positions, aren’t able to perform the functions for which they were intended. In this sense, “Anna Gong” is not a folding object since when it is closed, although it might indeed cease to be a container, it takes on the aspect of an object to be admired instead. “Anna Gong” is an object-sculpture, which turns into a three-tier Cake stand as needed. A real quick-change artist, “Anna Gong”’s transformation is simple to accomplish: simply lift apart its “hairdo”, which acts as a clasp, and then rotate the three layers into position. The Cake stand is made of cold-pressed 18/10 stainless steel.
