The bottle opener by Giovanni Alessi is an object whose function is not immediately obvious. On the contrary, its function is concealed, though its mode of operation is in actual fact simple and ingenious. To open a bottle, one is surprised to find oneself making the gesture of putting the cap back on. The opener is placed onto the top of the bottle, pressed as if to put the cap on, and the cap is removed and held by a magnet inside the bottle opener. The movement is enhanced by the pleasure of handling an ovoid shape in stainless steel.
