The Lotus bowl in the Sushi set is pour-cast with a double wall, and it is entirely hand-decorated before the third firing in order to obtain the desired shades of colour. From below, the double wall with sealed base can be seen. This constructional characteristic ensures a light weight notwithstanding the very thick petals. The base of the container is held above the table surface so that the lower edge of the petals is suspended in space, giving the unit an attractive lightness of appearance.
The Lotus bowl is part of the Sushi set, which includes the Foglia di Loto plate, the tray, and the little bird soy sauce container. The Sushi set is part of the ORIENTALES collection, furthering the cooperation with the Taiwan National Palace Museum which began with the CHIN FAMILY collection. The objective of this second collection is to add further “quality”, both by introducing new themes and forms, and also by working with a wider range of materials, with greater detailing in the decoration. Orientales, when compared with the Chin Family, introduces ceramics (Fine Bone China) and thermosetting resins (bakelite).
