This wineglass by Jasper Morrison is an addition to the “Glass Family” and has the same economy and simplicity of form. It’s made of crystalline glass, designed for everyday use, sober in appearance but more elegant than the tumblers in the “Glass Family”, for which it can be considered the alternative for evening meals. Again in this design, there is great attention to detail, conferring a formal consistency and a solid character on an apparently simple shape. The design features include, for example, differing thicknesses of the glass material, which becomes thinner towards the mouth of the glass, the cylindrical stem and the sloping foot. The greater weight at the base makes the glass stable and the thin edge of crystalline glass makes pleasing contact with the lips. The accentuated overall weight of the glass evokes the tradition of restaurant glasses, which had substantially thicker glass to give a greater sense of measure and value to its contents. Today this aspect is particularly appreciated as it places the focus on drinking wine for quality rather than quantity.
